Industrial cameras are widely spread in automation, medicine and science. Meanwhile, they are also entering new fields, such as marketing and arts.
This broadening of the application scope leads to more and more users whose background is another growing camera market; namely, that of photo cameras, video cameras, mobile phone cameras and webcams. This previous background rather hinders their first steps with industrial cameras.
This is the starting point for this website: We provide an introduction to the basic types of industrial cameras and lenses. Additionally, we describe the major selection criteria for these components. If relevant, we emphasize on the differences between industrial and consumer cameras.
Important: All the texts we provide in this website are intended to help beginners to get a quick overview. Thus, they are as short and simple as possible. They are by no means sufficient to build an entire machine vision system. This requires experienced system engineers.
