Machine vision system
Machine vision systems solve various problems based on the basic following components: illumination, optics, industrial camera, computer and software. The roots of machine vision is industrial automation.
In the meantime, machine vision systems are beginning to enter new application areas, such as medicine, security and traffic. The currently most "popular" application areas are autonomous robots and camera-based gesture recognition.
Independently of their respective application, the successful realization of machine vision systems depends very much on how well the above mentioned basic components work together. This is the task of an experienced system engineer.
This website does not provide any further information concerning system engineering. It "only" describes the component that is physically in the middle of a machine vision system: i.e. the one that converts optical signals (light) in to electrical signals (digital image) - the industrial camera.
