Trigger

A typical machine vision task is the inspection of objects, that move on a conveyor belt. Here, first of all, it is important to capture the image at a precise moment.

For this task, industrial USB cameras, FireWire cameras or GigE cameras have a so-called "trigger input". In our example, this input is connected to a photo-electric barrier. If the object passes this barrier, it outputs a pulse that triggers the industrial camera.

Important: An industrial camera, which is in "trigger mode", captures exactly one image, when the trigger pulse arrives and then waits for the next pulse. Thus, it is not possible to start the capturing of a video using the trigger input.
