Frame rate

Like video cameras, industrial cameras output image sequences (but they do not compress the images). The camera's speed is expressed, using the unit "images per second" or "frames per second". In the context of video and machine vision, the technical term "frame" is often used instead of "image". Thus, the unit "fps" stands for "frames per second".

Usually, for visualization purposes, as well as for the adjustment of illumination, optics and camera settings, a speed of 15 fps is sufficient. The automatic analysis of image often requires a much lower frame rate.
